| Stuff
needed for game: 1.
Barricades (large boxes or other objects to hide behind etc…)
2. At least 6 balls (Ones that won’t hurt much if hit
in the head) # of balls will vary depending on group size.
3. Two different colored flags (Towel, shirt, cloth etc…)
4. Different colored shirts, wristbands etc… to tell
the teams apart. Have another color for the Flag Guards to
wear to set them apart from the rest.
5. Tape (For marking boundaries)
6. A Stereo and cds for the timer (If you are using that for
the timer).
Object of game:
1. Knock everyone
out by either tagging him or her with your hand, or by hitting
him or her out with a ball. (1 point) or…
2. Get the flag and bring it back to your flag. (2 points)
If you have the flag, you are allowed in your safety zone
with the flag.
3. Whoever has more points in the end is the winner. Play
till you get tired, or you run out of time.
General Rules:
1. Each team
has a safety zone surrounding the flag. The only ones allowed
in the safety zone are the Flag Guards and opposite team players.
2. The game is played non stop, however, if a team scores
then all players must go back to there side, and the flag
put back if it had been taken, and the game resumes. Players
that are out stay out until the timer ends for them, they
do not come back in when a team scores.
3. If your Guard is knocked out with a ball, they are out
and cannot be replaced with another guard. The guard, just
like everyone has to wait for the timer to end to come back
in.
4. Your guard can go anywhere they wish, however, no one can
be knocked out if they are in the safety zone.
5. If you are holding a ball you cannot tag someone. You cannot
drop the ball in front of you, tag someone and then pick up
the ball again. You need to toss the ball away.
6. If a player has your flag, they are safe in the SAFETY
ZONE, but once they cross the SAFETY ZONE boundary, you can
use any method to get them out. You can tag them, or hit them
with a ball to get them out. (This only applies if the player
has the flag).
7. If the flag is dropped, passed off, or the player is tagged
or hit with a ball then the flag is returned back to that
teams safety zone, the game continues.
8. If you hit someone in the head you are out for 2 min. and
the person that you hit is still in.
9. If you catch the ball that was thrown at you, that person
is out and will have to wait for the timer to end to come
back in the game.
10. The balls cannot be carried over the line.
In general, if
you follow the rules of Capture the Flag and Dodgeball, you
can’t go wrong. There are a few exceptions and rule
changes.
Offensive
Rules:
1. You can knock
someone out on the other side by throwing a ball at them just
like in dodge ball. If you get hit, you are out.
2. If you cross the other teams line you cannot be hit by
balls, however you can still be tagged (just like in Capture
the Flag). If you get tagged, you will be frozen in place
until another teammate unfreezes you by coming across and
tagging you. If your teammate successfully tags you then you
both are safe to walk back to your SAFETY ZONE and then start
playing again.
3. If you get to the other teams flag you are safe in their
zone, but once you leave the zone you can be tagged out by
any means. The other team can tag you out by balls 10 ft.
or more distance away, or by tagging you out.
Defensive
Rules:
1. You can tag
someone out on your side. You cannot hit them with balls unless
they have the flag. If you tag someone, they will be frozen
in place and will have to sit down.
2. You can hit another player with a ball to get them out
like in Dodgeball. If you hit someone, they are out.
3. Only one person can guard the flag, everyone else has to
be at least 10 ft. away. The guard will be designated at the
beginning of the game and will wear a special shirt. The main
advantage that the Guard has is that they can go anywhere
they wish. Where everyone else will have to go around the
safety zone, not through it. The Guard will be the hardest
to knock out because they can be safe in their own safety
zone.
Safety
Concerns:
1. Make sure
to aim the balls low (as to not hit someone in the head)
2. When throwing the ball at someone try to be at least 10
ft. or more away.
Other
ways to play:
1. For a quick game get rid of the time limits. If you are
knocked out, you are out.
2. When someone is hit with a ball they are out for 5 min.
If someone else from the same team gets knocked out, 1 minute
is added to the time remaining for both to return. Example:
Player one has 2 min. remaining to return to the game. Player
2 from the same team gets hit with a ball. There would now
be 3 min. for both to return. This way might be difficult
because you need someone on the side with a couple timers.
(I have not tried this way)
3. A very fun way to play is to have a stereo with a bunch
of music for the kids to select from. The music is constantly
playing, but if a player(s) is knocked out, they need to choose
a song and play the song till the end. Once the song is over,
they can come back in the game. If the song is more than 2
min into the song and someone is knocked out, the player(s)
that are out are back in the game, and the player(s) that
got knocked out can choose another song. However, if the song
is less than 2 min. done, the player(s) that got knocked out
will be back in with everyone else once the song is done.
You can adjust the way you do this to whatever you find works
best. (I have tried this way and the kids really enjoyed it)
4. To simplify things, I found that when someone gets knocked
out, it is easier to have them listen to 1 min. and 30 secs
of a song and then they are back in. You can pretty much adjust
it to the way you feel works best. The teens that I have played
this game with love it. We have played it 4 times already
and it is one of their most favorite games.
